Augusta Nationals

Pitching and defense dominated Friday nights game between the Augusta Nationals and the Mentium Athletics. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when the Athletics went ahead 2-0. In the fifth, Dustin Pannell tied the game with a clutch single through the right side with two out and runners at second and third. Steve Godawa pitched a solid 6 innings for Augusta, leaving with the score even at two. Tyler Godwin then pitched three scoreless innings and the Mentium pitching kept pace to keep the game tied after nine. Strong pitching from both teams kept the score 2-2 through 11. With two outs and no one on in the top of the 12th, the Augusta bats came back to life. Robby Paccione started the rally with a single. J.C. Huffman and Nick Polsinelli followed with singles. Derek Herron completed the 4 hit, 3 run rally with a triple to right to make the score 5-2. Michael Hester, who had come in to pitch in the 10th closed the door on Mentium with 3 perfect innings and got the win. The Nationals return to Conyers tomorrow for a double header.
