Lessig's 16 strikeouts leads the way for A's    The Mentium Athletics picked up a game on the Athens Pirates in the North Division of the Great South League standings behind the strength of Mike Lessig's 8 inning, 16 strikeout performance on the mound for the A's Thursday night at the Thompson Field of Dreams in Conyers.  Lessig yielded no earned runs and only two hits over the eight innings.
The Pirates scored their run in the top of the 8th inning on the combination of two Mentium errors and a base hit.  The A's wasted no time answering back as Jeremy Herren led off the bottom of the 8th inning with a home run to tie the score at 1-1.  Dakota Asnip, John Kolowich, and Remington Hedgepeth followed with three straight singles to help put the A's up 3-1.  Evan Tieles (2-1) came on in the 9th inning to shut the door for the A's.
The A's take on the Augusta Nationals in a big three game set this Friday (7:00 p.m.) and Saturday (4:00 p.m./6:30 p.m.) at the Thompson Field of Dreams in Conyers.
