2009 World Port Tournament: Cuba

CUBA - Veteran and young talented players were included in the roster of the Cuban national baseball team that will represent the island at the upcoming World Port Tournament in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, which was last week in Havana.

The team is led by veteran stars such as catcher Rolando Meriño and lefthanded pitcher Yulieski González, both members of the squad that participated in the II World Baseball Classic held in March this year.

Other players who participated in the Classic and will also attend the Tournament next month are outfielder Leonys Martín and pitchers Miguel Lahera, Aroldis Chapman and Vladimir García.

Also young players like infielders Yorbis Borroto, Roberto Carlos Ramírez, José Dariel Abreu and outfielder Jorge Padrón were included in the squad.

Roger Machado will be the manager of the team.

Besides the baseball competition of the WPT in Rotterdam, another team from the island will participate this year in the IBAF Baseball World Cup later this year in Europe.
